Nortis has branded its OOC Technology under the name ParVivo. ParVivo comprises microfluidic chips in different configurations to culture a variety of organ models as well as the perfusion system which provides tightly controlled culture conditions and assay parameters.

If you have a standard cell-culture incubator, installing the ParVivo Platform in your lab is quick and straightforward. Nortis provides active support in form of training, instruction materials, and troubleshooting.

Microfluidic Chips

The disposable ParVivo™ Chips are designed to accommodate a large variety of tissue models, assay parameters, and read-outs.

Plug&Play Chips

For a number of applications, the chips are available in a Plug&Play format with pre-established, quality-tested living tissues. Receiving the chips ready-to-go eliminates the time and effort spent on growing the tissues prior to experiments and ensures robust chip performance and superior data quality. Our current portfolio of pre-seeded tissue-chips includes kidney proximal tubule, liver, and vasculature.

Empty Chips

Receiving empty chips without pre-grown tissues is the best option for researchers who desire a high degree of freedom in their experimental setups, especially those who choose to use specific cells and matrix materials. Nortis is actively supporting all customers with tissue-engineering expertise, data-collection protocols, and trouble shooting.

Chip Design

Multiple chip designs are available, offering compatibility with a large variety of applications and a spectrum of readouts including fluorescent microscopy, downstream fluid analysis, permeability studies, histology, and gene expression analysis.

Services Provided by Nortis  

Another option is to have Nortis perform assays on established ParVivo models, for example efficacy or toxicity testing of drug candidates. In addition, services provided by Nortis can also include the development of new OOC models and assays that are tailored to the customer’s research interest. These projects usually begin with a detailed discussion between the Nortis team and the customer about desired outcomes, form of data collection, use of specific cells and matrix materials, chip configurations, culture parameters, etc.

Different chip designs;

Perfusion System

ParVivo™ microfluidic chips are supported by our perfusion system, which consists of a perfusion module, docking stations with shelves, and a pneumatic pump. The whole system fits in a standard cell culture incubator.

Each ParVivo perfusion module houses 1 ParVivo chip and up to six supporting media reservoirs. Three-shelved docking stations that reside in a standard tissue culture incubator enable up to 36 independent experiments to be run at a time. Perfusion through both the tissue lumen and surrounding extralumenal space allow physio-chemical gradients to be created, and perfusion fluids and cells to be collected for downstream analysis. Each docking station shelf or individual perfusion module can easily be removed using the sealed quick connect fittings allowing easy transport between the cell culture incubator, biosafety cabinet, and microscope stage.

The ParVivo incubator gas pump powers the system and provides precise control of flow rates. The pump recirculates incubator air maintaining your specific gas conditions without any additional consumables. This precise flow control enables:

  • Creation of vasculature and other tubular tissues
  • Delivery of test compounds via the perfusate
  • Exposure to shear and flow forces that are present in the body
  • Independent perfusion through the vessel and matrix compartments
